The American Society of International Law is hosting a panel discussion about “U.S.-Cuba Relations at a Crossroads“ between U.S. government lawyers and U.S. attorneys representing the Cuban government and U.S. companies.

The “on the record evening” Dec. 7 at the ASIL headquarters in Washington features David Huitema, legal adviser of the U.S. Department of State; Carl Meacham, minority staff in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee; William M. Berenson, adjunct professor at the Washington College of Law, American University; Leonard Weinglass, a lawyer with Rabinowitz, Boudin, Standard, Krinsky & Lieberman, P.C. who has represented the government of Cuba; Robert Muse, a Washington attorney representing corporate claims against Cuba; and José Pertierra of Pertierra & Toro PC, Washington, who has represented both Cuba and Venezuela. The moderator is Bruce Zagaris, Esq., of Berliner Corcoran & Rowe LLP, Washington.

Topics include changes with respect to Cuba’s status in the OAS, continued cooperation between the United States and Cuba, and initiatives in the U.S. Congress to ease sanctions against Cuba.

The event is sponsored by the District of Columbia Bar, Section of International Law, Public International and Criminal Law Committee and the Inter-American Law Committee, in conjunction with the American Society of International Law.
