On November 25, the House of Music Promotions "La Sitiera" will host, at 6:00 p.m., the presentation of important musicians of Vueltabajo-as Pinar del Rio is also known-, who will perform known pieces of Fernando Borrego Linares, Polo Montañez's original name.

Likewise, on November 26, that day of the death of the author of "Un montón de estrellas", La Sitiera Theater Café invites everyone also at 6:00 p.m. to participate in a jam session with renowned artists of the territory.

But, undoubtedly, one of the highlights of the homage will take place the same day at 2:00 p.m. when poets, improvisers and part of the cast of the Palmas y Cañas TV program hold a guateque (traditional social gathering usually held in the countryside that includes singing and dancing) in his honor.

Polo Montañez was born on June 5, 1955, in Sierra del Rosario, Pinar del Río, in a region known as El Brujito. He wrote the first song in 1973, which was titled "Este tiempo feliz". Although he wrote others afterwards, he did not make them public since he regarded them as meaningless.

Polo performed a mix of genres, with an own style and writing songs based on personal or someone else's experiences but always impregnated with countryside elements.

When Las Terrazas Complex was founded, Polo and his group started to play in the tourist facilities of the spot, like Moka Hotel, Rancho Curujey and Buenavista Coffee Plantation.

It was then that the album Guajiro Natural was born. It sold over 40,000 copies in Colombia and won him Gold and Platinum Awards and also recognition as the most popular international artist.

In Cuba, Polo's popularity rose to incredible heights and the number of fans attending his concerts surpassed all expectations.

He visited Colombia five times and France twice; he was also in Portugal, Belgium, Netherlands, Italy, Mexico, Ecuador, Costa Rica and shared the stage with artists like Ruben Blades, Andy Montañés, Margarita Francisco, César Évora, Cándido Fabré, Francisco Repilado (Compay Segundo), Eliades Ochoa, Adalberto Álvarez, Dany Rivera and others.

On November 20, 2002, on his way back to his hometown San Cristobal from Havana, Polo Montañez had a car accident and died six days later.
