New York, 16 nov (EFE) .- The piece "Les Abalochas danesent pour Dhambala, dieu de l'unité" Wifredo Lam (1902-1982), reached a new price record for this Cuban artist when it was bought for  2.15 million in a sale of Latin american art's auction being held by Sotheby's house in New York.

This is the highest price so far paid for Cuban Wilfredo Lam's works, considered one of the most original exponents of surrealism in Latin America, and surpassing the record that marked the sale of "Sur les traces" also at Sotheby's on May, when the piece was sold for 1.42 million dollars.

The piece that reached the new record is part of Lam's later creations and it reflects the influences of Cubism and Surrealism, and especially the one of the Spanish Pablo Picasso (1881-1973), a figure very close to Lam when the Cuban fled from the Spanish Civil War and eventually became one of his sponsors.

With "Les Abalochas danesent pour Dhambala, dieu de l'unité", a dark piece that is also remarkable for its size (2.13 x 2.44 meters), Lam thus became one of the stars of an evening where more than three works of the Cuban went on sale. For the time being, when the bid is still ahead in the New York headquarters of Sotheby's, an untitled work painted by Wilfredo Lam between 1944 and 1945 went on sale for  470,500 and another called "Femme", also finished in the 40 decade found a buyer willing to pay $ 374,500 for it.
