Cuba frees the first of 13 political prisoners

AP. Sat Nov 13, 11:50 pm ET. HAVANA – The first of 13 remaining Cuba dissidents jailed since 2003 has been released from prison.
Bertha Soler, a member of the Ladies in White dissident group, says Arnaldo Ramos Lauzurique "has arrived at his apartment" in central Havana after his wife received a telephone call from Havana Cardinal Jaime Ortega.
The Ladies in White, whose members are the wives of political prisoners, met with Ortega Friday afternoon and the cardinal assured them that authorities would fulfill their word and free the prisoners even though they have refused to leave Cuba as part of a larger prisoner released broker by the Roman Catholic Church. Ramos was released on Saturday.
