Omelio Borroto, vice-president of the event’s organizing committee, said in a press conference on Wednesday that the congress will be attended by over 200 foreign delegates and some 150 Cubans, and that the record figure of 542 papers has already been sent.

The biennial event, he said, is sponsored by the National Association for Animal Production (ACPA) and the Institute of Animal Science (ICA).

Maria Felicia Díaz, president of the scientific committee, highlighted that the 2nd Symposium on the Production of Ruminants, the 1st International Symposium of the Federation of Sheep and Goat Breeders, and the 5th Regional Meeting on Implementation, Technology Transfer and Rural Development, will coincide with the Congress.

For her part, Maria Teresa Planas, president of the ACPA, pointed out the importance of the event, which is aimed at encouraging the exchange of experiences and results of producers, researchers and technicians.

To debate about tropical animal production systems, their technical, economic, ecological and social sustainability, as well as the assessment of strategies for the improvement, preservation, use and identification of natural resources, are the main objectives of the association, she added.

The 2nd Workshop on Computing and Biostatistics Applied to Agriculture and Livestock Science will also be carried out, under the slogan “Training and producing in a safe environment”, according to information provided by Jose Alberto Sardiñas, member of the organizing committee.
