The head of the Spanish Government, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, today expressed his condolences to President of Cuba, Raul Castro, for the plane crash yesterday in the Caribbean island that killed 68 people.

In a telegram of condolence, Zapatero sent their solidarity to the Cuban leader and the Spanish people to "the immense tragedy that has resulted in the tragic accident" of the aircraft, en route to Santiago de Cuba-La Habana.

"Rest assured that in these moments of intense pain, you can count all the affection of the Government and the Spanish people, I beg to convey to the families of the victims," reads the text published by the Palacio de la Moncloa (headquarters central power).

The president of the Spanish government to the Cuban authorities said the willingness of the Iberian country to provide such assistance as may be necessary, the letter concludes.

In the plane of Aerocaribbean company, traveled 61 passengers and seven crew, 40 Cubans and 28 foreigners, including a Spanish citizen, said the Civil Aviation Institute of the Caribbean nation.
