Cuban fencer Guillermo Madrigal will travel to Paris to take part in the 2010 World Fencing Championships in France next Nov 4-13.

Madrigal, sixth in the previous championship in 2009 in Antalaya, Turkey, will be the only hope for Cuba. A good performance is expected in Grand Palais.

This is the principal engagement this year for Madrigal, Pan Am champion in Rio de Janeiro 2007 and world ranking 21st. His coach Jorge Valdes will travel with him to France,according to the National News Agency (AIN).

Valdes, head of the technical staff, told AIN that Madrigal has trained hard and that he is in good shape.

He also said that Madrigal showed what he is made of in the 2010 Pan American Championships in Costa Rica. He got gold in partners and singles.

"We have high expectations and will try to return home with a medal", Valdes said.
