Tuesday, November 2, 2010 | Dane Anderson. Cuban/American artist,  Rolando Diaz, returns to Austin to host a fine art show of studio pieces and paintings created during live performances at One World Theatre. Proceeds from the event will benefit OWT.

The Diaz exhibit is Saturday, Nov. 6 from 6:30 – 10:30 p.m. at the Jauregui Estate located at 12025 Kirkland Court. Diaz’s work has been exhibited internationally and collected by Liza Minnelli, BJ and Gloria Thomas and Courtney Rainwater, among many others. Diaz has raised thousands of dollars for charitable organizations and frequently performs with world-class musicians – creating a painting live in dialogue with the musical artist.

His work is based on a philanthropic mentality, as the artist himself was born in Havana, Cuba and has seen poverty firsthand. He has spent his career recalling and capturing images that move people to feel the reality of the plight of those that are less fortunate, while also raising funds through his art for the poor. A documentary about Diaz, “Recapturing Cuba” has recently been featured on PBS.
