Gourriel hit a homerun responsible for run 2. The Cuban baseball team made good use of its pitchers and defeated South Korea 3-0 in its second game at the Intercontinental Baseball Cup in that city. Veteran right-hander Norge Luis Vera allowed only three hits in six innings, striking out three and allowing one walk before been replaced by Yulieski Gonzalez.

With Gonzalez on the mound, nine out of ten hitters were out, two of them striking out.The Cubans scored first in the opening inning. South Korean left-hander Jin Jae Soo walked leadoff hitter Hector Olivera (2B), allowed a hit by designated hitter Michel Enriquez, Alfredo Despaigne (LF) batted in Olivera with single to left-field.

The second run for Cuba came off the bat of Yulieski Gourriell who hit a home run. Gourriel doubled in the seventh frame and catcher Ariel Pestano batted him in with a single to left field.
