Photographs, old documents, ashtrays, musical cigar boxes, pipes and other elements of the exhibition "The Story of Tobacco" opened Sunday in this city during the Festival of Latin American Culture.

According to the Cuban News Agency, AIN, the exhibit is a personal work of engineer Miguel Cabrera, a member of the Cigar Bands Collectors Association. It displays hundreds of pieces that show an insight of the history of tobacco since its discovery by the Europeans in 1942 to date.

At the opening ceremony, critic Ernesto Galban explained that cigar bands and tools for creating 'Habanos' are a valuable graphic testimony to reflect events of past centuries, characters in literature and politics, or just the landscapes that decorate them.

It is no coincidence -he was quoted as saying- that The Story of Tobacco is include within the activities of the Latin American Culture Festival because it was just in this part of the island where the Europeans discovered America, and had their first contact with the aromatic leaf.

As an exhibitor, Cabrera has been in events related to the world of tobacco, including several editions of the Habano Festival and the International Symposia of Havana Habanos.
