2010.10.18 - 18:49:53 / [email protected]. Holguin, Cuba.- The book Papeles de un naufragio (Papers from a Shipwreck), by prestigious Cuban writer Lourdes Gonzalez (Holguin, 1952) will be soon presented in Italy, translated under the title of “Carte da un naufragio".

Originally printed by Holguin Editions in 1999 and also translated into French by the Indigo publishing house in 2002, the text narrates, by way of verses and prose, the author’s testimonies on the turbulent swell of the 1990’s.

According to a report published by the Baibrama portal of the Provincial Culture Office, Gonzalez will present her book in the cities of Rome, Perugia and Naples, from October 19th through the 30th.

A member of the Cuban Association of Writers and Artists (UNEAC) and of its National Council, the intellectual has also published the collections of poems Tenaces como el fuego (1986), La semejante costumbre que nos une (1988), El luminoso pajaro de la memoria (1999), and En la orilla derecha del Nilo, (2000).

Lourdes Gonzalez has been árt of the jury for prizes given by Havana’s Casa de las Americas cultural institution in the category of novel, and in this genre she has published La sombra del paisaje, Sur la rive droite du, and Maria Toda which has been translated into Italian.

Gonzalez, who is also the director of the Pedro Ortiz Dominguez Center for Literary Promotion, has received the National Prize of the Critics for her novel Las Edades Transparentes, which won the Julian del Casal National Poetry Prize” (1999) and the Bicentennial of Jose Maria Heredia Special Prize for Poetry (2003)

Her works have been included in anthologies in Cuba and abroad. In 1997, her name was included in the Latin American Literature Encyclopedia.
