2010.10.18 - 19:12:35 / [email protected]. Int’l Fishing Tournament Kicks off in Cayo Guillermo, Cuba. Ciego de Avila, Cuba.- The first International Fishing Tournament Jardines del Rey kicked off Monday in Cayo Guillermo, in the central northern keys of Ciego de Avila, bringing fishing enthusiasts from different parts of the world.

Marketing director of the Marina Marlin branch in Ciego de Avila, Juan Miguel Romero, said the event started with a lecture by Western Representative of Quebec Outfitters Federation Inc., Nicolas Morin.

During the tournament running through October 22, the fishing teams will be at sea for seven hours sailing Marina Marlin yachts of 33 to 42 feet, equipped with six fishing rods and 50-pound fishing lines, Romero said.

The fishing area, to the north northeast of Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo keys in the Old Bahama Channel, is full of different species like white marlin, Dorado, among others, etc.

The competence’s system consists of scoring and releasing the fish after taking three pictures of the fish to show to the jury. The number of points varies depending on the fish captured.

Liliana Hernandez Fajardo with the Tourism Ministry said the prizes are unique as they consist of a marlin made out of silverware by the silversmiths group Pauyet.
