HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 14 (acn) The so-called Common Position, adopted by the European Union for its relations with Cuba since 1996 was condemned on Wednesday by Germany's Network in Solidarity with the Caribbean island (Netzwerk Cuba).

During a general assembly of members held in the city of Erfurt, this group urged the European Union to end this position that makes dialogue with Cuba conditional on political changes regarded as unacceptable by the island.

"The Common Position demands that Cuba changes its social system from Socialism to Capitalism thus giving was to exploitation and that it joins the ranks of the countries that have opted for neoliberalism," a statement issued by Netzwerk Cuba reads.

The text also demands that the German federal government and the European Union exert pressure for the immediate end of Washington's almost 50-year-old economic blockade of Cuba.

A similar demand was made by a regional leftist group called "RotFuchs" during a meeting of some 100 people in the German city of Halle where Nelson Varona, an official from the Office of Culture at the Cuban Embassy in Germany, spoke about
the current situation in Cuba and the process that are currently taking place on the island.

Participants also demanded the immediate release of five Cuban antiterrorists who remain unjustly imprisoned in the United States since 1998.
