Chileans continue celebrating the amazing rescue of 33 miners who survived 70 days in a gold and bronze mine in the Atacama desert.

The last of the six rescuers who entered the mine to aid the trapped workers emerged at 00:32 (local time).

"First, there was distress, then hope, and today happiness," Chilean President Sebastian Pinera said when describing the feelings around the collapse of the San Jose mine on August 5.

Very early today, a crowd was seen along the streets and plazas of the city, with posters and Chilean flags as expressions of joy at the successful rescue operation in Atacama region.

Yesterday, the Chilean government and people received messages of congratulations from around the world, including from numerous heads of state in Latin America and other regions.

However, the memorable day left a lesson, as stated by Manuel Gonzalez, the last rescue worker to leave the mine: "I hope this has been a lesson for all of us, and that things will be different in the Chilean mining industry."
