Young Cuban Sommelier to World Contest in the Dominican Republic

TRINIDAD, Cuba.- Young sommelier Placido Sariol Roque, who works at the Amigo Ancon Hotel Club in Trinidad, in the central province of Sancti Spiritus, will represent Cuba in the World’s Best Sommelier Contest scheduled for Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic.
    
The event, held every two years and organized by the Worldwide Sommeliers Association (WSA) and Italian enologist Thomas Sartori, will take place from October 11 to 18 with the participation of experts from Puerto Rico, Spain, Cuba, Germany, Israel, New Zealand, Poland, Slovenia, Switzerland, France, England, Italy, Argentina, Hungary and the European Union.
    
The previous similar contest took place in Rome and the winner was Austrian Aldo Sohm. The competition includes blind tasting, editing a wine list, pairing, and service, among other challenges.
    
Sariol Roque won the top prize at the Second National Sommeliers’ Championship held in Varadero earlier this year with the participation of 40 Cuban sommeliers.(ACN)
