HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 4 (acn) Cuban scholars that will attend the Conference of the Association on Latin American Studies, LASA 2010, in Toronto, Canada, confirmed that Fidel Castro's book "The Strategic Victory" will be launched at a literary showcase included in the event.

A group of 74 Cuban intellectuals, among them Cuban writer Miguel Barnet, Doctor in Philosophy Ramon Sanchez Noda and specialists in North American topics Carlos Alzugaray and Jorge Hernandez, will take part in the event together with more than one thousand experts from three continents.

Running from October 6 to 9, the conference will feature the presentation of nearly one thousand papers and doctoral thesis on the Latin American and Caribbean current situation.

Likewise, participants will discuss the relationship between the United States and Canada with Latin America and the Caribbean, including the US-Cuba conflict.

According to the Cubadebate website, the event will focus on the effect of the US financial crisis of 2008 on Latin American and Caribbean countries.

Founded in 1966 in the United States, LASA is the largest professional organization on Latin American and Caribbean studies with more than 5,000 experts from the region and other continents.

Over the last few years, the Association has been forced to hold its congresses outside the United States because of the American government's refusal to grant visas to Cuban specialists.
