2010-10-03 10:15:28, The men's national volleyball team of Bulgaria will face Cuba and Spain in the third round of the 2010 Volleyball World Championship in Italy.

Late Saturday evening Bulgaria defeated the team of Brazil 3:0 (25:18, 25:20, 25:20).

It was a strange game, with the Brazil team obviously playing to lose and being abundantly booed by the frustrated audience.

Bulgaria, on its part, played with its second team.

Both Bulgaria and Brazil were certain to qualify for the third round no matter the result, since they both had defeated the other team in Pool N - Poland - before that.

Yet Brazil were apparently eager to lose and secure the second place, which will now have them play against the Czech Republic and Germany in Pool R. It was speculated they particularly wanted to avoid the team of Cuba that defeated them 3:2 in the first round.

Bulgaria will now play in Pool Q in Florence, facing Spain on Monday and then Cuba on Wednesday.

The first-ranked teams of the four newly-formed third round pools advance to the Championship's semi-finals.

Second-ranked teams play on for places 5th-8th, while third-ranked go on to play for 9th-12th.
