Former Chilean president Michel Bachellet was named to head UN- Woman, the new UN agency created by the General Assembly to promote women issues.

Un Secretary General Ban Ki-moon announced that Bachelet will head UN-Woman in a short meeting with the press.

UN-Woman was established in July by a resolution of the General Assembly and will bring together four agencies that up to now tackled issues related with women.
