"I ask U.S. President Barack Obama to listen to the worldwide clamor for freedom" for the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly imprisoned in that country.

That was the request made by Elizabeth Palmeiro, wife of Ramon Labañino, sentenced to 30 years in prison and one of the Cuban Five.

Palmeiro told Prensa Latina that she has hope that Obama, because of his background and education, will do justice.

She and her two daughters recently returned from visiting Ramon, who is being held in a new prison assigned after a December resentencing in Miami.

It is a medium security prison in Jesup, Georgia, where Labanino is "not exempt from danger and threats to his physical integrity, but to a lesser extent than in the high security prison in Kentucky, which was very violent," Palmeiro said.

Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez were detained on September 12, 1998 in the city of Miami, where they had infiltrated terrorist groups that were organizing and carrying out criminal actions against the Cuban people.

Her husband has many dreams, Palmeiro said, one of which is to "embrace Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro and talk with Hugo Chavez, whom he termed a paradigm of the new changes in Latin America."
