2010.09.14 - 13:27:02 / [email protected]. HAVANA, Cuba.-  A Cuban six man weightlifting team will depart for Antalya, Turkey, aiming at including themselves among the top eight teams at the World Championships to run from September 18 through the 30.

Only two of them have participated in previous world championships, Bredni Roque (69) and Yoelmis Hernández (85) since they attended 2009 South Korea where both finished fifth in clean and jerk, and Hernandez did the same in snatch.

This event marks the beginning of the road to qualify to 2012 London Olympic Games. Cuba will have two representatives at the 56 kilogram division with two-time youth world silver medallist carlos Hernandez, along a rookie, Yasmani Romero.

2010 Guatemala Pan American champions Lázaro López (105) and Javier Vanega (94) are the other two members of the Cuban squad.

Cuba´s Weightlifting Federation executive Marcelino del Frade currently participates in Turkey in the Technical Committee Meeting. Del Frade told ACN that this squad has a great potential to have an outstanding performance despite its youth.

The official said they are ready to improve their best performances which, if achieved, could lead them to the medals.

In 2009 Goyang World Championships Cuba won two bronze medals in clean and jerk and snatch, both to the chest of 56 kilogram specialist Sergio Álvarez.
