HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 14 (acn) Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, arrived in Cuba on Tuesday morning, heading a governmental delegation to attend the 3rd CARICOM-Cuba Ministerial Meeting, to be held in Havana.

Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra welcomed the distinguished visitor and his delegation at Havana’s Jose Marti International Airport.

Accompanying Skerrit are Charles Savarin, Minister for National Security, Labor and Immigration, and Ambrose George, Minister for Information, Telecommunication and Constituency Empowerment.

Skerrit commented that his visit is aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries and that he expects to have constructive meetings with top Cuban authorities to express Dominica’s support for Cuba.

“I’m very happy to be here. Thank you for the warm reception I have received”, expressed the visitor.

Roosevelt Skerrit was born on June 8, 1972, and is a Psychology graduate from the State University of New Mexico, and an English Language graduate from the University of Mississippi. A member of the Dominica Labor Party (DLP), Skerrit was appointed a Parliament member in the 2000 elections and occupies the post of Prime Minister since January, 2004.

Dominica belongs to the group of the Windward Islands in the Lesser Antilles,and covers an area of 750 square kilometers.

This Caribbean insular state achieved its independence from the United Kingdom on November 3, 1978.

Cuba and the Commonwealth of Dominica established diplomatic relations on May 18, 1996.
