The Cuban children's company "La Colmenita" (Little Beehive) concluded its tour of Turkey on Tuesday in Istanbul, with the international premiere of its new musical, "Five Cuban Heroes."

After performing the play "La Cucarachita Martina" in the cities of Istanbul, Eskisehir and Ankara, the company, directed by Carlos Alberto Cremata, performed its latest offering, dedicated to the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly imprisoned in the United States and the victims of the Barbados crime.

The performance took place at the Nazim Hikmet Cultural Center with hundreds in the audience, which enjoyed a show featuring songs by Silvio Rodriguez, Carlos Puebla and Los Van Van, along with verses by the immortal Turkish poet Nazim Hikmet and Uruguayan Mario Benedetti.

At the beginning of the tribute, Cremata addressed the audience to explain the details and situation of the case of the Cuban Five, as they are universally known, and to thank the Turkish people for the affection shown to the children's company throughout its tour.

Animated by the young artists, the audience ended up singing some of the traditional and well-known Cuban songs, and displayed an enormous placard in Turkish asking for the release of Gerardo, Antonio, Rene, Ramon and Fernando.
