12:06, September 11, 2010. Relations between China and Cuba are at their best as the two nations are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic ties, Chinese ambassador in Havana Liu Yuqin said Friday.

"On Sept. 28, 1960, China and Cuba decided to join their destinies to build socialism together and raise the living standards of their peoples," the diplomat said at a local event marking the anniversary at the Chinese Club Chung Wah in Havana, where the national flag of the People's Republic of China was raised for the first time on Oct. 10. 1960.

Liu said long before the establishment of diplomatic relations, Chinese immigrants won the hearts and minds of Cubans due to their hard-working spirit, courage and loyalty.

She said that despite various tests and constant change in an often volatile world in the past five decades, China and Cuba have maintained a friendly, cooperative and mutually beneficial relationship.

Local celebration events for the anniversary will run from Sept. 10 to 28, including ballet and martial art performances as well as traditional art displays, among others.

China is Cuba's second largest trading partner and both sides are promoting bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields.
