2010.09.04 - 10:15:26 / [email protected]. HAVANA, CUBA.- Coinciding with the International Tourism Fair (Fitven) that will take place in Caracas from September 8th through the 12th, the Tourist Fair of countries that are members of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas (FitALBA) will also be held in the Venezuelan capital.

In statements made on Friday, Venezuelan Tourist Minister Alejandro Fleming pointed out that the important event, in which some 120 national and international tour operators will participate, will also include for the first time a similar event for ALBA member nations.

Fleming underlined that, over the last few years, agreements in the field of tourism have been reached within the regional bloc, and that FitALBA will contribute to strengthen the bonds existing between its peoples and industries, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.

He announced that FitALBA will promote some of those advances, like the multi-destination package known as La Ruta de Bolivar (Bolivar’s Route), organized by Venezuela and Ecuador.

Fleming specified that FitALBA will highlight the tourist and cultural attractions of the regional bloc, made up by Venezuela, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Bolivia and the Caribbean islands of Antigua and Barbuda, Cuba, Dominica, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

ALBA is a regional mechanism of integration that was created in 2004 to counteract the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA), promoted by the US government since 1994.
