HAVANA, Cuba.- Modern seeders are being introduced in Cuban farm cooperatives, while tools and tractors are being repaired in a nationwide effort to boost food production.

The Augusto Cesar Sandino Agricultural and Stockbreeding Cooperative (CPA, by its Spanish acronyms), in the municipality of San Antonio de los Baños, Havana, is one of the leaders in the use of top-notch technology and the recovery of agricultural achines.

As a result of the joint work of mechanics, specialists and farmers, six 20-year old tractors have been repaired and are ready to be used in the winter campaign that just begun.

The CPA’s president Alfonso Roche told ACN a growth in the production of root vegetables and grains like plantain, malanga, sweet potato, tomato and potato.

The Augusto Cesar Sandino is one of the cooperatives in the country boasting a total yield of 4,536 tons a year.

Of 861 acres ready for the winter season in the cooperative, 761 have electric irrigation system and stable water supply.
