Guinea-Bissau President Malam Bacai Sanha Tuesday concluded his first official visit to Cuba aimed at strengthening bilateral friendship and cooperation.

During Sanha's meeting with Cuban leader Raul Castro on Monday, both said they are satisfied with the state of bilateral ties, according to Cuba's official media. The two also discussed international and regional issues.

The president said his four-day visit to the Caribbean island nation was aimed to promote bilateral ties.

"Our goal is not only to recall the common past that we have, but to revitalize our cooperation, besides thanking for the support of the Cuban people," he said.

During the trip, Sanha also laid a wreath at the tomb of Cuban internationalist soldiers killed in the struggle for the independence of African countries.

Cuba and Guinea-Bissau established diplomatic ties on Oct. 1, 1973.
