The exhibition entitled Paradojas del Deseo, by Cuban painter Manuel Lopez Oliva, was presented at the Inca Gracilazo Cultural Center of the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, directed by Andean prize-winning poet Antonio Cisneros.

Lopez, the winner of the Guy Perez Cisneros National Critic Award –in recognition of the work of a lifetime- confessed that visiting Lima represented the settling of an old debt with culture and with the greatness of the Incas, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.

This deep desire, he commented, comes from my childhood readings of the Golden Age, by Jose Marti, as well as from my art studies on the ancient Incas, Mayans and Aztecs and my contacts with Peruvian professors and artists.

He added he was positively impressed by seeing with his own eyes that Inca culture is present in Peruvians, a civilization that in days gone by managed to be the most powerful empire culturally speaking, and the most creative one, only comparable to ancient Egypt.

Lopez expressed his appreciation to the center and its director for the warm welcome given to his works and the hospitality he was given. He also thanked the Cuban Culture Ministry and particularly the Cuban Embassy to Lima for making this exhibition possible.

The works of the Cuban artist -paintings effusive in lines and colors and his masked figures- have deserved outstanding reviews on the cultural pages of Peruvian newspapers.
