Writer Leonardo Padura said he is working on the script for two stories of a film entitled Seven days in Havana, along with Benicio del Toro and director Juan Carlos Tabio.

During a course he is giving at a university in Spain, the Cuban novelist announced that the shooting of the film is scheduled for next year, reported the newspaper El Pais.

Produced by Morena Films, the film consists of seven short films taking part six foreign directors and Tabio, who serves as host of the project.

Laurent Cantet is one of the filmmakers who confirmed his participation in the film.

The director of The class, the film awarded with the Palme d'Or prize at Cannes 2008, said he will direct one of the frames that make up the film, during a visit to Havana a few months ago.

Padura recently explained to a newspaper of Cantabria that the French director liked his history so much that he will shoot a feature film later.

According to El Pais, the Cuban writer also revealed that a major American director and producer is interested in adapting to film his series of detective novels starring the investigator Mario Conde.

But the author of The Man who loved dogs, chose not to forward the name, since he is eager to watch some of his works on the big screen.

Leonardo Padura, who has a degree in Philology and journalist, has found in his writing career several major awards, including the Prize of the novel of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, and the international awards Hammett Prize and Café Gijón.
