HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 26 (acn) Cuba defeated Argentina in four sets on Thursday (25-23, 25-20, 17-25, 25-20) to claim the title of the Youth Olympic Games boys'volleyball tournament, which was also the last gold at stake in these inaugural Games in Singapore.

The Cuban attack was led by Wilfredo Leon with an incredible 35 points.

On their way to the crown, the Caribbean squad beat Argentina (3-0) and Iran (3-1) in the preliminary round before they downed Serbia (3-0) in semifinals.

The bronze medals were for Russia, which beat Serbia in the third-place match.

Meanwhile, in the girls' volleyball final, European youth champions Belgium defeated the United States 3-1 and took the crown. Peru and Japan placed third and fourth, respectively.

China finished at the top of the unofficial medal standings of these inaugural Youth Olympic Games with 30 gold, 16 silver and five bronze medals. Russia finished second with 19 golds while South Korea placed third winning 11 titles.
