Severe Local Storm Hits Cuban City of Las Tunas

LAS TUNAS, Cuba, Aug 25 (acn) A severe local storm hit Tuesday afternoon the eastern Cuban city of Las Tunas and the municipality of Majibacoa, both of the province of Las Tunas.

Local authorities are touring the hit areas today to tally the damages, however partial and full roof collapses have been already reported.

The storm had sustained winds of 60 km/h and gusts over 100 Km/h which caused the greater damage. Fortunately, the weather event was not accompanied by heavy rains, hailstones or tornados, as they usually are in Cuba.

Some 15 severe local storms hit the country between June and July this year. The island sees type of meteorological phenomenon more frequently in the months from May to September.
