MARACAY, Venezuela -- Canada kept its medal hopes alive at the Women's World Cup by rallying for four runs in the bottom of a wild seventh inning to beat Cuba 10-9 on Friday.

Kate Psota of Burlington, Ont., ripped an RBI single to cap the rally and the seal the victory for the Canadians (2-3), who blew a 6-4 lead in the top of the frame.

Despite the win, Canada will play in the fifth-place game after Australia pounded the U.S. 19-6 later Friday.

Cuba took a 9-6 lead into the ninth but watched as Canada loaded the bases and clawed its way to the win. Marie-Josee Tremblay of St-Honore, Que., got things started with a two-run single before Ashley Stephenson of Mississauga, Ont., hit a sacrifice that tied it.

Psota then sent an 0-1 offering from loser pitcher Yaima Ramos into centre to score Tremblay.

Jessica Berube of Quebec City and Stephenson each gave up three runs in the top of the seventh as Cuba rallied.

The Canadians seemed to take control of the game with a five-run third featuring RBI singles by Amanda Asay of Prince George, B.C., Stephanie Savoie of La Pocatiere, Que., and Jennifer Gilroy of Mississauga plus a two-run double from Becky Hartley of White Rock, B.C.

Asay's RBI groundout in the fourth made it 6-2 before the Cubans chipped away.
