HAVANA, CUBA.- American actor Danny Glover and writer Saul Landau, also from the US, narrate details of their recent visit Cuban antiterrorist fighter Gerardo Hernandez in the Victorville prison, California, in an article posted by Progreso Weekly.

Glover and Landau, who were accompanied by Hernandez’ sister, referred to the difficult moments Hernandez lived through during the 13 days that he was kept in a punishment cell.

The temperatures inside the hole rose to the high nineties. “I had to use my drinking water to keep me cool, pouring it on head,” said Hernandez.

He also noted that he was released from the hole thanks to the thousands of phone calls and letters from people all over the world.

Hernandez said he keeps up on the news about Cuba and that he recently saw his wife, Adriana Perez, on TV as she attended a parliament session broadcast life.

“You know what’s painful. She’s 40 and I’m 45. We don’t have that much time to have a family together. The United States won’t even give her a visa to visit me. She’s behaved with such courage and dignity throughout this ordeal,” he said.

Glover and Landau said they talked for two hours and after saying good-bye to Hernandez, they could see him standing at attention against a wall near the cellblock door next to another prisoner.

“We gave him a fist salute. He returned it. His sister blew a kiss. He grinned reassuringly – as if to remind us. ‘Stay strong,’” said the authors of the article.
