Cuban triple jumper Radame Fabar classified for the finals of the Singapore 2010 Youth Olypic Games with a personal best of 15.99 meters on his first attempt, a mark he says he can beat.

After achieving the longest jump of his short career, Fabar told Prensa Latina that he felt very good, and that he would have exceeded 16 meters if he had had to continue competing.

However, his record qualified him for the final and he decided to study his opponents, whom he described as strong, but after his performance on Thursday, he says he thinks he can win a medal.

"My method is simple: I disconnect from everything. I don't talk, I don't hear, I just think about jumping strong," Fabar said. Event volunteers were snapping photos with him as if he were Jonathan Edwards.

Asked about his expectations for the triple jump final, Fabar, a native of Santiago de Cuba, said he is ready to jump 16 meters, a distance his rivals can only dream about.
