For swimmer Diana Nyad, turning 60 means it's time to finish what she started more than 30 years ago.

The world-renowned long-distance swimmer will attempt to swim from the shore of Cuba to the coast of Florida — a 103-mile journey she tried but failed to complete in 1978.

During that attempt, she spent nearly 42 hours in the water, but fell short of the Florida shore because of strong currents and bad weather.

Not long after that swim, Nyad hung up her suit. Then, in 2009, she decided to get back in the water.

Once Nyad receives her visa, she'll try the Cuba to Florida swim once again.
