The Common Market of the South (MERCOSUR) demanded the immediate end of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the government of the United States on Cuba for almost 50 years.

Prensa Latina reports that the demand is included in a Declaration of this regional bloc issued during the closing session of MERCOSUR’s 39th Summit that concluded on Tuesday in Argentina.

The document, approved by the presidents of the member states, notes that the blockade is a measure that violates the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and the principles of international law.

This unilateral policy has caused economic losses to the Cuban economy to the tune of several billion dollars.
