HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 10 (acn) Cuba defeated Argentina 3-0 on Friday and finished with 11 victories and as the leader of the group D of the preliminary stage of the XXI World Volleyball League, in a match that took place in the Argentinean city of Formosa.

Thus, the Cubans swept the Argentineans in four matches with two shutouts and two that had to go all the way through the tie-breaks to win.

Cuba (29 points) also swept Germany, which finished second in the group with 21 points (7 wins and 5 losses) and beat Poland 3 times and lost one, that one in Havana. The Polish finished third with 19 points (6-6)

Argentina finished at the bottom of the group without a single victory and only three points, but since it will host the final round it is one of the sixth teams to be at that stage.

Cuba won three straight sets this Friday (25-16, 26-24 and 25-19) despite DT Samuels sending to the court six pinch players.

Cepeda, with 12 points, Simon (11), Mesa (11) and Bell (10) were the most important scorers for Cuba in this game. Cuba had secured its ticket to the finals on Thursday with another easy victory over Argentina.
