I am planning to travel to Cuba July of 2010 for 6 days. I live in the US so me and my wife are planning to catch a flight from Domnican republic to Cuba since we have family there.

I was wondering if you can recommend an airline company that could take us from DR to Cuba.

I am planning to visit the following places while there. Havana (visit cigar factory and a romantic night out), Varadero (beaches),Trinidad (Beaches, Water Falls).

What would be your recommendations in order for me and my partner to experience all this places in 6 days or if you have other ideas please share.

I am also looking to experience the real cuban life, good cigars and rum included.

Cubana and Copa fly out of Santo Domingo into Havana. Aero Caribbean flies out of Santo Domingo into Santiago de Cuba.

Visiting Havana, Varadero and Trinidad is WAY too much in only 6 days.

The first thing you need to do is buy a decent guide book and do a little research. Moon, Rough Guide, Bradt, Lonely Planet, Time Out, Footprint, Insight, Berlitz, etc.

Personally, if it was me and I had less than a week I'd skip the beach altogether and spend the entire time in Havana, with an overnight trip to Vinales. This would give you a good overview of big city Cuba, and rural Cuba.

Have fun.

Cheers,

Terry

Thanks, I've been reading Lonely planet which is just excellent. I am looking forward to visiting vinales because I'm a big cigar aficionado, but as far as not going to visit some beaches, I need to do it to please the wife, or she will never forgive me:( What would you recommend for me to at least visit one really great beach.

Thanks for the fast response.

I'd do the beach time in the DR with your family, but if you have to see a Cuban beach then Varadero is the closest one with great tourist infrastructure.

If you want to see a more "Cuban" beach then hit Playa del Este, just outside of Havana. It's covered in your LP guide.
Cheers,

Terry
