HAVANA, Cuba, June 17 (acn) Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, president of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), will arrive on Saturday to Cuba, announced today the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER).

Ilyumzhinov´s working agenda will begin on Sunday with a visit to the grave of former world champion, Cuban José Raúl Capablanca, at Havana's Colon cemetery.

On the evening of that day, Ilyumzhinov will attend the closing of the tournament that pays homage to the great player of the Caribbean island, in the hotel Habana Riviera, and a day later he will meet with the Grand Master Silvino Garcia, head of the Cuban Federation.

Born on April 5, 1962, Ilyumzhinov guides the destinies of FIDE since November 1995 when he succeeded Florencio Campomanes of the Philippines, who directed it since 1982.

His visit coincides with the promotional campaign for his stay in office, which will be at stake during the Congress scheduled for September, during the World Championships, to be held in Kanthy-Mansiysk, Russia.

The Russian former world champion, Anatoly Karpov, is the candidate that leads the other block. Karpov will arrive in Cuba this Friday.
