After a concert in Oakland, California, Cuban singer Silvio Rodríguez will continue his US tour with stops in Los Angeles and then in Washington and Orlando, Florida.

As he posted on his blog, Segundacita, "I continue travelling long distances, rehearsing with my friends whenever we find a place, and trying to respond to the attention of people I may only see once in a lifetime."

In his June 4 debut at New York's Carnegie Hall, about 3,000 people sang along for two and a half hours, despite his absence from U.S. stages for three decades due to the U.S. government's refusal to give him a visa to enter the country.

An atmosphere of complete harmony with the artist prevailed in the theater. A stream of warm energy emanated from the audience, just like during his earlier presentation in Puerto Rico.

Public demand resulted in a second New York concert on June 10, when he was finally able to honor Pete Seeger, having been unable to attend a tribute for the US folk singer a year ago due to difficulties with the visa.

Silvio also remarked: "Last night Pete was there. I dedicated my concert to him because he is a true master.

He has spent 91 years learning songs in each place to teach them everywhere. He has left a little piece of Cuba in the United States, a little bit of Africa in Italy, a breath of Spain in Japan. For Pete, there are no borders."

He took advantage of his stay in New York to absorb by osmosis more of the culture he recognizes as a determining influence on his work.
