The book ‘Etre femme a Cuba’ (Being a Woman in Cuba), which focuses on the decisive role of Cuban women in the history of the Cuban Revolution, was launched in Paris on Wednesday by its author, Dominique Gay-Silvestre.

During the launch, Gay-Silvestre praised the role played in Cuba by the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), to which Revolution leader Vilma Espin dedicated all her life.

The writer said that the FMC helped women become key elements in sectors such as education, production and defense. She thanked Cuban women Luisa Campuzano, Graziella Pogolotti, Aida Pelayo, Vicentina Antuña, Dora Alonso, Iris Dávila and Alicia Alonso who allowed her to know more about Cuba’s history.

Present at the ceremony were the Cuban ambassadors in France, Orlando Requeijo, and before the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Mary Florez. Also present were FMC representatives Carolina Amador and Ana Martinez as well as diplomats, intellectuals and members of groups in solidarity with Cuba.
