Lezama Lima
HAVANA, Cuba, May 28 (acn) Intellectuals and poets participating in the 15th International Poetry Festival of Havana described Cuban late writer Jose Lezama Lima as a leader of the Latin American cultural world.

As part of the international event, which commemorates the centennial of Lezama’s birth, the National Fine Arts Museum of Havana hosted on Thursday a colloquium dedicated to the author of ‘Paradiso’, chosen by critics as one of the most transcendental books of the 20th century.

Cuban professor and researcher Deisy Cué referred to Lezama’s fascination with Cuban National Hero Jose Marti, whose campaign diary he regarded as the greatest poem ever written by a Cuban.

Mexican anthropologist Felix Jorge Baez spoke of the Mesoamerican world of the Cuban writer, who considered the Maya’s Popol Vuh as a “telluric alluvium” in the formation of the baroque in this part of the world.

Cuban poet Manuel Garcia Verdecia praised Lezama’s intellectual coherence and pointed out that, unlike many others, he was able to build his own poetic system that is present in his poetry, his novels and essays.
