His name is Cesar Pedroso but everyone calls him Pupy. Composer, songwriter, arranger, pianist and musical director. He comes from a family of musicians.
As an up-and-coming pianist, Pupy joined several orchestras in Habana including Sensacion, Chappottin and Elio Reve. In 1968, he and fellow bandmember Juan Formell leave Elio Reve's group to form Los Van Van, Cuba's most popular band of the past four decades.
During his 32 years with Los Van Van, Pupy wrote more than 150 songs including "Seis Semanas," "El Buena Gente," "Azúcar," "Eso Está Bueno," "Ni Bombones Ni Caramelos," "Mamita Pórtate Bien," "Que Cosas Tiene La Vida," "El Pregonero," "Tranquilo Mota," "El Negro Está Cocinando," among other hits. In 1999 Los Van Van won a Grammy Award.
But for a restless innovator like Pupy, accolades do not suffice and in 2001 he took on the challenge of leading his own group.
Los Que Son Son is the result of Pupy's creative maturity, combined with an exploration of new young talents and the recruitment of veterans from other renowned Cuban groups like Charanga Habanera, NG La Banda, Los Van Van, Isaac Delgado, among others.
Nine years after its founding, Pupy y Los Que Son Son enjoys a huge following that values the music quality, sings along most of its songs and fills venues to capacity throughout Cuba, Latin America and Europe. Now Pupy invites you to be part of their first USA TOUR.
