HAVANA, Cuba, May 19 (acn) The president of the National Assembly (Parliament), Ricardo Alarcon, described Cuban National Hero Jose Marti as the best example of virtue, which should be followed by all those elected by the people to represent them at the municipal assemblies.

The top legislator was speaking at the Main Hall of the University of Havana on Wednesday, May 19, on the occasion of the 115th anniversary of Marti's death in combat and coinciding with the constitution of the municipal assemblies in the country's 169 municipalities.

"Marti's best legacy is his virtue and he should be a guide for all the delegates to Municipal Assemblies recently elected by the people," Alarcon said and praised the Cuban electoral processes for their transparency and respect for democracy.

On the occasion, that also served to officially form the Municipal Assembly of the Havana municipality of Plaza de la Revolucion,Alarcon slammed an ongoing anti-Cuba media campaign led by the United States and its European allies saying "they lack the moral authority to judge us."

As decreed by the Cuban Council of State, the 169 municipal assemblies of the country are being constituted on Wednesday, May 19.

The 15,093 delegates recently elected in as many districts during a nationwide partial election will assume their posts and will elect the presidents and vice presidents of their respective municipal governments in solemn sessions.
