A total of 93.49 percent of Cubans registered at electoral colleges had voted at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, according to a report by the National Electoral Commission (CEN).

This percentage corresponds to 8 million 94,419 voters. CEN President, Ana Maria Mari, told the press that this figure represents a massive turnout at the polls, adding that it was an exemplary response to voting, and the best exponent of the success of this process.

These numbers go beyond simple figures, since they represent the support the Cuban people has given to their elections and their Cuban socialist democracy, she underlined.

Mari recalled that there was a particularly heavy poll since early Sunday and that the number of people going to the electoral colleges was constant. This made it possible to have the high indexes of participation registered since the first reports issued.

At noon, over six million people had already cast their ballot papers, more than half of the ones who have the right to do so, which speaks highly about discipline and organization but that also evidences Cubans’ support for their Revolution, in a moment when their country is under a shameful attack by the media of the United States and its European allies, she pointed out.

The island’s top electoral authorities announced that the last report of this first round of elections will be issued on Monday, which will still be preliminary, until the second round, scheduled for May 2, takes place.

Only after that date, Cubans will know the results with respect to the election of the 15,093 delegates who will work in a similar number of constituencies and in the 169 municipal assemblies of the People’s Power (Cuban Parliament).

Only voting centers in which none of the candidates obtained over 50 percent of the valid votes or where a tie occurred will carry out this exercise of democracy again on May 2.

The current elections, number 14th in the country since 1976, called 8 million 468, 464 voters, and half a million people throughout the island participated in various tasks to guarantee their successful performance.
