The promotion in Cuba of evenings with historical traditions for tourists is now showing a touch of distinction, with legends and fantasies linked to corsairs and pirates.

Camaguey witnessed incursions of such visitors in ancient times.

The Cuban Tourism Ministry (MINTUR) is now highlighting these celebrations in the province of Camaguey, a part of Cuba which was not exempt from incursions of such visitors in ancient times.

According to authorities of the sector, the stories are part of the 500 years of history in this Cuban province. The buccaneers widened smuggling of merchandise in the Cuban coasts in several places of the Caribbean island.

Among the examples there are British Henry Morgan, French Francois Grammont and Peter the Olonesian, who were in Camaguey and other parts of the Caribbean.

In Santa Lucia, north of Camaguey, an excursion was created to recreate the arrival of the pirates to this Cuban beach. Guests start at Los Cocos Beach, near Santa Lucia, close to the entrance of Nuevitas.

The activity, called Fiesta Bucanero, is one of the favourite by the tourists coming to Santa Lucia from many parts of the world.
