The New Latin American International Movie Festival is sending its message at the remote areas of the Sierra Maestra’s mountain range.

Films defending and enriching the cultural identity of the American people are being released in television halls, youth video clubs and cinemas at the hills of Granmaeastern province.

Susel Falcón, promoter of the movie centre in the mountain municipality of Buey Arriba, told AIN that from the opening of the Festival, last December 3, the proposal favours the neighbours from the main town in the communities of Banco Arriba, San
Pablo de Yao and La Estrella.

In Pilón, the audiovisual offer will reach the neighbourhoods of Manacal, El Boniato, La Jocuma, Paso de Lajas and El Ramón that do not have electric energy but  they have rooms with photovoltaic cells, said Juan Córdova, responsible for the movie activity in the locality.

Amalia Roger, chief of the department of promotion from Granma Movie Provincial Centre, explained that the movies are also being screened in the rest of the territory, as part of a special program expected to take place until next December 13.

The exhibition –she said- is made up of twelve pieces by new and well established producers from several Latin American and Caribbean countries, among them, Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico, Brazil and Peru.

The New Latin American International Movie Festival, which took place for the first time in 1979, constitutes a space for exhibition, exchange and dialogue between the different ways of conceiving the seventh art in the region, without ignoring the development of the industry in other nations of the world.
