Havana’s Jose Antonio Echeverria University (CUJAE) awarded Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro the Doctor Honors Causa title, during a ceremony held on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the center’s founding.

The Vice-president of the Council of Ministers, Jose Ramon Fernandez, received from the hands of Alicia Alonso, Rector of that center of high studies, the honorary acknowledgement to Fidel, “who is a consubstantial part of CUJAE’s history.”

Several generations of youngsters who have contributed to the country’s economic and social development have graduated from this center, expressed Alonso.

Our thanks to Fidel for making the dream of late student leader Jose Antonio Echeverria come true, for being the teacher forging the new man, for promoting everything that can ennoble the dignity and development of human beings, she stressed.

Miguel Diaz-Canel, member of the Politburo of the Cuban Communist Party and Minister of Higher Education, called the institution’s students and workers to put all of its scientific potential at the disposal of the search for solutions to increase productivity and reduce imports.

This is a university that promotes Cuban culture and sports, which, along with its firm ideology and humanist action, centers the bases of the modern university we all aspire to have, highlighted Diaz-Canel.

Present in the ceremony were Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdes, Politburo member and Minister for Computer Science and Communications; Jaime Crombet, Vice-president of the Cuban Parliament; Lazara Mercedes Lopez, First Secretary of the
Cuban Communist Party in Havana, and representatives from the diplomatic corps accredited to Cuba.
