Elier Sanchez Mora is a beekeeper for five years now. Nowadays, he has 45 hives, the year before he obtained 136 kilograms for each, which granted him the second place at national level, "in 2008 I was almost the first, but did not get there," he says.

"I had some bad luck: I went into beekeeping a year before Hurricane Dennis, which was disastrous, but I went ahead and it took me three years to rise again. Besides being a farmer, I belong to the Cooperative Olimpo Rodriguez here in Punta de Piedra, in Pilon, Granma.

If you give the bee too much sugar, it affects its immune system. Eventually these hives get sick.

My plan for this year is two thousand 500 kilos which I am about to fulfill.
"I base my work on the Indian liana and the bellflower of the hill.
