HAVANA, Cuba (ACN) -- Cuban 2008 Olympic champion and world record holder in the men’s sprint hurdles, Dayron Robles, will participate in the 22nd Central American and Caribbean Championship that begins this Friday at the Pan American stadium in Havana.

The competition will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the same venue, which underwent a restoration process last year that included the setting of a new synthetic track.

According to Granma newspaper, organizers of the event expect the participation of other outstanding athletes such as 2004 Olympic champion Felix Sanchez of the Dominican Republic while the Cuban Athletics Federation has announced the presence of the country’s top athletes.

More than 500 competitors from 24 countries have confirmed their participation in the meeting that will also be attended by the president of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), Lamine Diack.

Some of the largest delegations will come from Trinidad and Tobago (40), Jamaica (40) and Mexico (30).
