Cuba's energy authorities have reduced 18,000 tons of fuel destined to power generation without blackouts, Granma newspaper reported Tuesday.

Electricity Company official Ricardo Gonzalez confirmed the reduction regarding the increasing consumption in April and the first two weeks in May.

Such equivalent fuel economy, reached thanks to a national energy saving, made blackout program to people unnecessary.
